One of the best cancer fighting tea categories are black teas and green teas. The polyphenols in green teas and the theaflavins and thearubigins in black teas exhibit significant free radical scavenging activity, protecting cells from DNA damage caused by reactive oxygen species.
Studies indicate that tea polyphenols inhibit tumor cell proliferation and tumor cell invasiveness. Additionally, tea polyphenols may safeguard against UVB radiation damage, modulate immune system function, and activate detoxification enzymes, potentially preventing tumor development.
White tea, not as commonly studied for cancer benefits as green and black teas, is the least processed among its counterparts, boasts a delicate flavor profile and a high concentration of antioxidants. According to WebMD, “Several test tube studies have shown that white tea has anti-cancer effects. One study found that it could destroy different types of lung cancer cells. Another found that white tea could stop the growth and spread of colon cancer cells.”
Oolong tea is unique to China and Taiwan where most of the Oolong production takes place. Oolong tea comes in three degrees of fermentation: lightly fermented, full aroma, clarity, closer to green tea with lighter body, and golden green infusions.
According to Medical News Today, researchers found through their study that patients with extracts of green and oolong tea saw a halted growth of all types of breast cancer cells. In contrast, black and dark tea extracts showed very little effects.
“Oolong tea, same as green tea, can induce DNA damage and cleavage, play an inhibitory role in breast cancer cell growth, proliferation, and tumorigenesis, and [it has] great potential as a chemopreventive agent against breast cancer.”
While more study is needed, it is clear that teas offer a wide range of cancer-fighting benefits! Incorporating black, green, white, and oolong teas into your daily routine can be a delightful and healthful strategy. ]]>Discover the best teas for heart health and how each type will help you in your journey to overall wellness! This Valentine’s Day, we are offering 20% off 6 hand-picked heart healthy teas!
Green tea has long been celebrated for its myriad health benefits, and its positive impact on heart health is noteworthy. Packed with antioxidants called catechins, green tea helps combat oxidative stress and inflammation in the body. Catechins, particularly epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), have been linked to lower blood pressure and reduced levels of LDL cholesterol—the "bad" cholesterol associated with heart disease.
Regular consumption of green tea has also been associated with a decreased risk of cardiovascular diseases, making it a heart-friendly beverage.
Known for its vibrant crimson hue and tart flavor, hibiscus tea has gained recognition for its potential to lower blood pressure. Several studies suggest that regular consumption of botanical blends may lead to a significant reduction in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure. This effect is attributed to the presence of anthocyanins and other antioxidants that promote blood vessel dilation and improve blood flow. Including botanical blend teas in your daily routine may be a tasty and natural way to support your heart's well-being.
Black tea, a classic favorite among tea enthusiasts, is rich in compounds known as theaflavins and thearubigins. These antioxidants have been associated with cardiovascular benefits, including improved cholesterol levels. Some studies suggest that black tea consumption may lead to a reduction in LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Additionally, black tea may enhance blood vessel function, contributing to better overall heart health.
Choosing high-quality black teas and enjoying them in moderation can be a delightful addition to your heart-healthy lifestyle.
For those looking to avoid caffeine while still enjoying a flavorful cup of tea, rooibos tea is an excellent choice. Native to South Africa, rooibos tea is caffeine-free and contains unique antioxidants like quercetin and aspalathin. These compounds have anti-inflammatory properties and may contribute to a lower risk of heart disease.
Rooibos tea is also known for its calming effect, which can indirectly support heart health by reducing stress levels—a significant factor in cardiovascular well-being.
As we navigate the path to holistic well-being, paying attention to heart health is paramount. While teas can't replace a healthy lifestyle, they can certainly complement it. Incorporating a variety of these teas into your daily routine can be a flavorful and enjoyable way to support your heart. So, brew a cup of your favorite teas for heart health, and take a step forward towards nurturing your heart with Storehouse Tea.

Green tea has long been hailed as the poster child for weight loss beverages, and for good reason. Packed with antioxidants called catechins, green tea has the power to boost metabolism and burn fat. The star catechin, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), enhances fat-burning and promotes overall weight loss.
Regular consumption of green tea has also been linked to reduced abdominal fat, making it a must-have in any weight loss journey.
For those seeking a middle ground between green and black tea, oolong tea emerges as a formidable contender. Through a partial oxidation process, oolong tea retains the benefits of both its green and black counterparts.
Studies suggest that oolong tea enhances fat metabolism, making it a valuable ally in the battle against weight gain. Its unique combination of polyphenols and caffeine contributes to increased energy expenditure, aiding in weight loss efforts.
While green tea often steals the spotlight, black tea is also one of the best slimming teas and it should not be overlooked. Rich in flavonoids, black tea exhibits properties that may aid in weight management. The presence of theaflavins and thearubigins contributes to improved metabolism and reduction in body weight.
Additionally, black tea's role in regulating blood sugar levels may curb cravings and prevent overeating, making it a valuable asset for those aiming to trim down.
Celebrated for its delicate flavor and minimal processing, white tea emerges as a hidden gem in the realm of weight loss teas. Like green tea, white tea contains catechins, though in milder concentrations. Its potential to enhance the breakdown of fat cells and prevent the formation of new ones aligns it with weight loss objectives.
The low caffeine content makes it a gentle option for those sensitive to stimulants, providing a subtle nudge in the right direction for weight wellness.
While traditional teas take the spotlight in weight loss discussions, botanical blends also play a role in supporting overall well-being. Teas such as Spearmint Peppermint Organic Botanical Blend, Apple Hibiscus Botanical Blend, and Hibiscus Flower Organic Botanical Blend offer a delicious caffeine-free alternative. Incorporating these herbal infusions into your routine can complement the effects of traditional weight loss teas.
Most people don’t immediately think about tea when they search for a sports drink. However, in contrast to conventional sports drinks laden with chemicals, undesirable sugars, or lacking in flavor, tea emerges as a superb alternative.
From the metabolism-boosting green tea to the caffeine-free benefits of botanical blends, each cup carries the potential to be a catalyst in your weight loss journey.
Embrace the richness of tea not only for its flavor but also for the profound impact it can have on your well-being. View our teas for weight loss collection and dive into the many options that are available at your fingertips. Are all tea bags biodegradable? The answer is “no”. Not all tea bags are biodegradable as not all come from the same company with the same commitment to sustainability or ethics.
The contents of tea bags - meaning the tea are typically biodegradable, but some tea bags such as plastic bags, are not as eco-friendly. This leads us to the second question: What are Tea Bags Made of?
Tea bags and sachets come in all shapes, materials, and sizes. The first tea bags were made from gauze! Today, tea bags are made from paper, plastic, or nylon. This is partly because these types of materials can withstand hot water while also showing you the tea inside.
“Pillow Style” tea bags (left) are tea bags made of paper and woven plastics. String tea bags (middle) are the most common type of tea bag. These are made of polypropylene fibers and can also contain plastic or plastic foil. Finally, “silken” sachets (right) are also made of plastic (typically) but have more recently been made out of other materials such as corn or other plant-based materials.
Because of plastics, these tea bags are often not biodegradable so they are left in landfills which can result in waterway and ocean pollution - which in turn breaks into microplastics.
Avoiding microplastics in tea bags and sachets in the world of tea can be difficult. According to BeyondPlastics.org, “There could be as many as 11 million microplastic particles in every cup of tea you drink”. This is, of course, because of the plastics in tea bags. These 11 million microplastic particles may end up in your tea and as a result, cause health issues starting with inflammation, gut problems, and breathing issues.
Storehouse Tea’s sachets are made from woven mesh derived from Non GMO plant-based Soilon meshof natural origin. Our Soilon filters can be degraded completely by microorganisms in soil through hydrolysis so it is environmentally and human friendly. Also, our Soilon mesh sachets don’t affect the wonderful taste of our teas!

]]>Before discussing the big announcement, let’s start with the basics: What is Yaupon Tea and why is it so popular?
Yaupon Tea was discovered in the early/mid sixteenth century on the Texas coast from the plant Ilex vomitoria. As a cousin to Yerba Mate, it contains a much smoother and slightly sweeter flavor. It is found from a holly bush and is known for its many medicinal properties. It was widely consumed by Native Americans who brewed it for purification rituals. Later, this tea was traded in northern parts of the country like Illinois. It is free of tannins and will never turn bitter regardless of steeping time. Yaupon is considered a botanical blend but contains caffeine.
According to Healthline, Yaupon offers many health benefits as well as a boost of energy - perfect for a morning energy boost or a midday pick-me-up. It provides the caffeine you need without the anxiousness or jitters. It is jam-packed with antioxidants that reduce inflammation, cell damage, and risk of heart disease. It also boosts mood, mental energy, and concentration. Compared to green teas, it is more potent in polyphenol.
We are excited to be Ohio’s very first provider of Yaupon Tea sourced from Texas. We chose to partner with CatSpring Yaupon in Texas for a multitude of reasons. CatSpring Yaupon is Native American-owned Regenerative Organic Certified company. They also happen to be female-owned by Abianne Miller Falla. CatSpring Yaupon is dedicated to supplying sustainably wild-harvested tea that is responsibly processed and ethically sourced while also maintaining a strong commitment to others who are in need.
Similar to our commitment to hiring refugees, CatSpring Yaupon also shares a heart for others. As part of their “People First Employment: Dignified Employment Initiative”, they employ women coming out of incarceration or affected by generational poverty. In doing so, they offer flexible hours, work with their probation officers and help re-integrate these women back into society. Additionally, many of their employees have been identified through partnering with organizations dedicated to ending human trafficking and other forms of modern-day slavery.
We have created three unique Yaupon blends:
As well as one straight Yaupon tea: American Yaupon. This is a new way for coffee drinkers and tea drinkers to obtain a natural caffeine source that provides mental clarity, increased health benefits, and energy.

Back to Jerusalem (BTJ) and Storehouse Tea together makes the perfect blend. This partnership started about eight years ago because a mutual friend recommended to Dan & Paula Hershman (owners of Storehouse Tea Company) to read the book “Heavenly Man” by Brother Yun. After reading this book, it opened their eyes to the Chinese Underground Church. They were in awe of the faith and sacrifice that Brother Yun and other Pastors made in serving God and their fellow man in the highly repressive, atheistic, Communist China and beyond.
It was then that a friend of a friend said, “you have a tea company and much of your tea comes from China and the Back to Jerusalem (BTJ) mission is also centered in China so there must be a connection”. Soon after, the driving force behind the international organization that supports the BTJ vision, Eugene Bach, was at our kitchen table in the Cleveland, OH area.
Back to Jerusalem is a movement founded in China in the 1920s. The goal of this movement and the Chinese church is to step up to the call and evangelize the unreached peoples from the Eastern Chinese provinces and beyond towards Jerusalem (aka the 10-40 window). In doing so, many of these Pastors and their families face extreme persecution. BTJ partners with the Chinese churches to evangelize, train, equip, send and assist their mission.
Eugene Bach explained this to us and the impact of the movement. The Back to Jerusalem movement was making disciples of new Christians at the rate of over 1 million a month in China alone!
After seeing this connection between their organization and our tea, this was the day that our new line of teas, “School House Teas”, that supports BTJ’s various humanitarian efforts came into existence.
At the time ISIS was at large, driving out not only Christians from their homes in Northern Iraq in the ancient town of Mosul, but also the Yazidi people. The Yazidis were especially impacted by ISIS and no one helped as they were driven into the mountains with no shelter or means of living a “normal” life. BTJ supplied food, shelter, built a school, and educated children, showing the Christian love for all people.
School House Teas were initially launched to provide a source of funds as Storehouse Tea Company donated $6.00 for every box of Organic Loose Leaf School House Tea that was sold. It was a success!
The need has turned to supporting scholarships for the children of persecuted pastors in China and other areas in the 10-40 window. Now, funds raised by the sale of Storehouse Tea/BTJ’s School House Tea line has a new focus and the need continues to grow. Today, $6.00 for every box of teas sold goes towards education scholarships as part of the BTJ Martyrs Scholarship Fund.
Dan & Paula Hershman are Ohio Ambassadors for BTJ. In honor of this ongoing partnership, Storehouse Tea is offering 15% off all Schoolhouse Teas from Friday, January 20th, 2023 to Friday, February 10th, 2023. With a purchase of 3 or more BTJ teas, you get a free BTJ Devotional and a free sample with any order. You can also save and order a BTJ Tea Subscription Plan which gives you delicious teas shipped straight to your door!
If you’d like to learn more about BTJ, how to become an Ambassador or have any questions about BTJ, School House Teas, or Storehouse Tea’s line of organic, fair trade loose leaf teas, tea sachets, and iced tea pouches for restaurants, coffee/tea shops, cafes, bakeries, hotels, schools, or places of worship, please contact info@storehousetea.com or call/text 440-708-3872 (Dan Hershman).
Did you know teas can actually help you on your fitness journey? Unlike the typical sports drinks that can be filled with chemicals, unwanted sugars, or lack in taste, tea provides an excellent alternative. In this blog, we’ll explain the fitness benefits of tea and why you should choose tea before workouts and after workouts.
Fitness teas offer a variety of workout benefits. They are great for digestion and weight loss on their own, but can also be great substitutes as post and pre workout teas.
According to Healthline.com, “Herbal teas can provide a variety of digestive benefits, including relief from constipation, ulcers, and indigestion”. Black teas may also help digestion with protecting your stomach with compounds that act as antioxidants. Digestion and weight loss are closely linked as the process of eating and digesting foods takes and burns calories - which in turn, impacts fat loss.
In addition to assisting in digestion, teas also can help in weight loss. According to WebMD, “Teas have a type of flavonoid called catechins that may boost metabolism and help your body break down fats more quickly”. Combined with caffeine that can increase your use of energy, the two help you to burn more calories which results in increased weight loss.
We’ve all heard of pre-workout or even protein powder for an after-workout drink, but what about tea? We’ve already discussed that drinking certain types of teas can help you lose weight and improve your digestive system. However, there are other benefits that pertain to the beginning and end of the workout.
Fitness teas are a great alternative as its natural properties can keep you focused longer, recover faster, and give you an energy boost.
Wondering why you should drink tea before a workout? The answer is increased focus and energy. Both Caffeine and L-Theanine, 2 natural properties in tea, work to improve your focus. L-Theanine helps to stimulate your brain while also relieving you of the caffeine crash. It can also increase your serotonin and dopamine levels to keep you happy and full of energy to get through your workout regardless of your exercise (TeaVendor.com)!
Some post workout teas offer natural ingredients that aid in muscle recovery and hydration. Some tea properties aid in post-workout joint pain, relieve post workout pain, and boost your immunity where you may be compromised with all natural teas.
We recommend Black & Green Teas as your go-to pre-workout drink. These blends are filled with antioxidants, help to support your immune system and reduce muscle damage. Additionally, some blends include caffeine which can help aid in increased energy and focus.
Our Recommendations:
Rooibos is a popular post-workout tea as it is caffeine free, full of antioxidants that strengthen the body’s natural immune system, and hydrates your body and skin. It quenches your thirst and helps keep your skin smoother. Additionally, Rooibos tea aids in joint pain and improves muscle recovery.
One of the most popular ways to naturally sweeten tea is using honey! Using locally sourced, natural honey is a great way to not only support and save the bees but also ensure that you are getting a high-quality, natural sweetener from a brand you trust! Honey provides so many health benefits including micronutrients, aiding in sickness, and providing antioxidants. Here at Storehouse Tea, we source our delicious honey from All The Girls (ATG) Honey, a beekeeper at The Hildebrandt Building.
You can find her on Facebook @ATG All The Girls, Instagram @Beesincle, and in our shop!
There’s nothing better than sitting in your backyard on a warm sunny day with a fruit-infused iced tea. In addition to adding a pop of color and flavor, fruit can be an excellent natural sweetener for tea. Pair your teas with a fruit of your choice and you can make a wonderful, new drink for summer parties and yourself.
Change out your sugar packets with Stevia! Stevia leaves are some of the sweetest substances known to nature and a great solution when searching for how to naturally sweeten tea without sugar. These leaves are up to 300 times sweeter than sugar with 0 calories and no icky aftertaste! Just add a few leaves to your favorite (Storehouse Tea) blend of loose leaf tea as a sugar substitute.
Many people are substituting dairy products with Coconut milk. Did you know that you can also replace your regular sugar with Coconut sugar? Coconut sugar is produced from the sap of palm trees and comes with many health benefits including assistance with preventing hypoglycemia, as well as providing nutrients like iron, zinc, and calcium.
In addition to being a delicious must-have item with pancakes, pure maple syrup is one of our top choices for healthy and natural tea sweeteners. Pure maple syrup contains a wealth of health benefits including lower cholesterol, improved brain health, and other necessary minerals.
Each of these 5 options makes a delicious, natural, healthy sweetener replacement for sugar. Before you head to the grocery store, shop with Storehouse Tea. We offer natural Stevia and honey here on our website!
]]>There are multiple differences when looking at white tea vs black tea. However, before we go into explaining these differences, let’s talk about how they are similar. Both are made from the same variety of Camellia Sinensis. In addition, they were both produced in the Fujian province of China.
Now, we’ll explain the differences.
Here we have two examples: Our Gingerly Peach White Tea and our Passion Fruit Black Tea.
Right off the bat, you can see that the difference is pretty big. You can see that white tea lacks fermentation. These white tea leaves are just leaves picked in the spring. They stay green. It’s just the bud and the two leaves underneath that are picked.
When the white tea leaf is allowed to ferment and decompose, it turns into black tea. Farmers wait until full maturity until they harvest the black tea. Oftentimes, black tea is harvested in colder climates with higher elevations. Similar to white teas, it’s just the bud and two leaves that are picked
There is also a substantial difference in white tea vs black tea taste and caffeine levels. As a general rule, the more tea is allowed to decompose, the higher the caffeine levels are. Since white tea is picked early on, it only has 10 mg of caffeine and is very delicate and sweet and lighter in flavor. Black teas have 60 mg of caffeine and are more full-bodied and full of flavor. They tend to be stronger and can be more astringent.
Both teas offer amazing health benefits - but there is a difference when comparing white tea vs black tea benefits. Black teas have great heart-healthy factors to them. They clean out plaque in your arteries and act as more of a brain stimulant. There are also multiple benefits of white teas. White teas have more antioxidants than black teas and white teas offer more amino acids which can produce more of a calming sensation.
One of the most popular questions is: Is White Tea Better Than Black Tea? The answer is, it depends on what you’re looking for. White teas are safe to drink at night as previously mentioned, they have a calming effect and lower caffeine. Black teas are better for productivity and energy as they have higher caffeine levels and increased brain stimulants and are excellent for early morning or as mid-afternoon pick up if you’re not too sensitive to caffeine. If you still aren’t sure which tea is right for you, check out our blog: Best Tea For Beginners.
We offer over 60 blends of delicious, organic, fair-trade teas to choose from. Whether you’re looking for white teas, green teas, black teas, oolongs, yerba mates, Rooibos or botanical blends, we have you covered. Contact us today if you have any questions and start shopping at www.storehousetea.com!
]]>Freshness defines our teas at Storehouse Tea. Fresh tea not only tastes the best but offers the most health benefits!
When you shop at your local grocery store and pick up a mainstream box of tea, you really don’t know how old this box of tea is. One of the main characteristics that makes Storehouse Tea Company different from its competitors and other big-label tea companies, is our dedication to fresh tea.
Through our relationships with organic and fair trade tea farms, we are able to get fresh tea leaves and ingredients shortly after they are picked. We produce our teas right away and then mark each blend with a two-year date.
Because our teas are fresh and organic, you get lots of delicious flavors as well as the health benefits like an immune system boost, elevated mood, and wellness. As an added bonus, you also get a great second and sometimes third steeping of our teas which provides an added value.
Two of the main questions people have about tea are: “do teas expire?” “do tea bags expire?”. The answer is YES. Teas, as well as tea sachets (or tea bags), have an expiration date. As a rule of thumb, tea should be consumed within 2 years of being picked. Stocking up on tea is great if you’re an avid tea drinker. However, if you are a casual drinker or new to tea, we recommend gifting teas or sharing with friends when you buy in bulk.
We strive to do our part in bringing you high-quality, fresh tea leaves. We safely store our fresh tea ingredients in airtight, dark containers so they are fresh and ready for you.
When people bring their teas home or open their packages, they may naturally throw their teas in another jar for aesthetic purposes, or even store their teas near their spices or coffee grounds.
When you buy tea sachets or leaves, we recommend keeping them in their packaging and away from your coffee or other strong odors. Teas should be stored in air-tight, dry, and opaque containers so they do not lose their delicious taste and so you can get the maximum lifespan out of your fresh tea leaves.
For delicious, fresh, health-filled teas, we recommend sourcing from fair trade, organic, small-batch, or local tea blenders. This way, you can get more information as to when the leaves were picked and from what countries they are coming from.
]]>Since 2006, Storehouse Tea has been committed to providing and sourcing clean, fresh, high-quality organic loose-leaf teas that were not only flavorful but also accessible to the American palate.
For over 15 years, we have been sourcing, small-batch hand-blending, and distributing some of the finest Organic, Fair-Trade loose leaf teas available anywhere. One of the common questions asked is, “How do we create new tea blends?”. In this blog, we’ll explain the process.
When we put together a new tea blend, we first start by looking at our collection. We ask ourselves: What is lacking? What do we need? What are our customers asking for?
Then, we look at what are the ingredients that we already have and is it an ingredient that is easy to source. When we source our ingredients, we work with 10-15 suppliers, prioritizing and only working with those that are organic and as much of fair trade as possible.
We definitely have a staff here that loves tea. Once we put our first blend together, we all try it out. We might go through 8-9 variations before we create the perfect blend.
Once we’ve created the perfect blend, we bring it to market. Each time that we come up with something new, it’s different and it's exciting. We love the entire process of developing new blends because it’s creative and delicious.
The tea flavors that come to market are really the best because they’ve not only been sourced by high-quality and ethical suppliers but also because they’ve undergone taste testing, modifications, and refinement.

Tea [good, quality loose-leaf tea] was a MUST! Of course, when I came here, I couldn’t find good quality, loose-leaf tea… it was a struggle. But then, I met Paula, she was blending it herself and I was very impressed by how delicious and fresh it is.

]]>NOTE: Pu-erh has been recategorized as a BLACK tea and has been moved from our green tea category.
Pu-erh, also written as Puerh, is a dark green tea that originated in China’s Yunnan province during the Han Dynasty. Through traders and travel, this tea spread across the country. As it spread to different provinces, people learned quickly that it had many health benefits. Its affordability made it a great trading tool and household amenity.
Puerh is processed from the fresh leaves of a superior “large leaf” variety of Camellia Sinensis and it experiences a unique natural post-fermentation process. When steeped, this tea exhibits a dark reddish infusion with a strong earthy scent with an aged essence and sweet undertones. It has a special ripened aroma and a sweet mellow aftertaste that improves with age. Pu-erh tea is like fine wine. It is one of the only teas that you want to be aged as it becomes better and more valuable with age. In fact, Pu-erh tea from prized trees can be sold for thousands of dollars! At Storehouse Tea, our Puerh tea is 7 years old.
Pu-erh tea became popular because of its many health benefits. Puerh is a fermented tea that aids in digestion and is loaded with polyphenols, it cleanses toxins and free radicals. In addition, Pu-erh tea health benefits include improving heart health because it contains statins that lower cholesterol. Puerh also contains a very diverse makeup of bacteria to support gut health. Puerh protects the nervous system, and it is beneficial for brain health. Thanks to the caffeine in Pu-erh tea, drinking a cup a day can help to increase your energy levels and focus as well as aid in weight loss. The best time to drink a cup of Pu-erh tea for weight loss goals is one hour after a meal so that the Pu-erh tea can remove excess grease and help your body eliminate unwanted hard-to-digest fats.
